You don’t have to suffer with boredom or sleep 10 hours a day this winter. We have interesting, creative things to do here in Knoxville, all in our cozy warm winery.

In addition to our monthly Wine & Art and weekly Writer’s Workshop, we’ve added 2 new events for January, a home wine maker seminar and barn quilt painting.

So many customers have asked us how the winery got started or are simply curious about the wine making process and how to evaluate wine that we decided to offer a seminar about those topics. The session is geared toward home wine makers that seek some advice or those that are just thinking about trying it. Presented by Nearwood’s owner and winemaker, Mike Van Natta, this free event will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 1:00- 2:30pm.

Our newest class adventure is painting barn quilts. I’ve wanted to create one of these geometric, decorative displays for a long time. Barn quilt art has an interesting tradition and is rooted in the public art movement. Fortunately, we found Lisa, an artist that has made these pieces and also teaches how to make your own. She offers a multitude of patterns and colors to choose from as well as 4 different sizes. Boards are prepared to your order so all you do is paint! Pre-payment is required for this class due to the necessary preparation for your order. Class will be Sunday, Jan. 27, 1:00-4:00pm.

Wine makes classes even more fun! We are happy to announce new wine releases of Chateau Nouveau and Castle Grigio, named in honor of our new winery. We also have new vintages of your favorites: Storybook, Raceway Red, and Speedway Sweet.

Get outta the house and do something creative/different. Renew friendships/meet new people. Try new wines or enjoy your Nearwood favorites. Go to calendar.
