![]() The other evening after a day of working in the winery, I was asking Mike questions about wine. After 3 years of working in this industry, there are still questions I have. Sometimes customers can stump me with good inquiries that I haven’t thought about. Do you know how long does it take to make wine? What’s the significance of the year on the wine label? Why don’t you make Chardonnay? I know these answers now but previously, I did not. Mike has been in the industry for a long time so he’s my Wikipedia of advice. We have fun testing each other’s knowledge about wine (enology) and grapes (viticulture). Of course, I have the biggest handicap here, but sometimes I can pose a philosophical or subjective query that leads to interesting discussion. Trivia has always been an engaging pastime for me. It helps keep my mind challenged and stretches my knowledge. When Mike brought up the idea of making a weekly trivia question in our newsletter, I was immediately on board with it. He sweetened the pot with a reward of 2 free glasses of wine for the subscriber who answers the best. We enjoy reviewing the responses from our readers and especially to meet them when visiting us at the winery to redeem their prize. If you’ve thought about learning more about wine, especially Midwest wine, you may want to subscribe to our newsletter (click the "Get news about events" link in the footer). You can easily do this at our website. We also offer classes like our Wine Appreciation and Recognition Program or Home Winemakers seminar. Let us know your questions. It may end up being a trivia challenge.
