December Brings New Chapter for a New Year

I had a dream last night I was cleaning house, sweeping, dusting and washing windows. In my dream interpretation, this activity symbolizes new beginnings, literally a clean sweep, clearing the cobwebs, looking (out the window) at the future. This month holds all of those promises.

By the end of December, Mike will retire from medicine. He will now transition from his work at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics as a family physician to devote full time to the winery business. A retirement party for him is planned at the winery on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 12. The musical duo, Planet Passengers, will perform live on the Nearwood Stage. The public is welcomed noon-3pm.

Many of you heard we sold our property north of town that held our original Knoxville Vineyard. I managed to salvage a few cuttings of Concord grapes and they are currently rooting in our greenhouse, to be planted this spring in our young vineyard on the south side of the winery. Hopefully we will have producing vines in the next few years.

A final sad note: We are mourning the loss of our winery kitty, Tramp, who entertained many of our visitors with her sweet nature. She passed away peacefully on December 2 from illness. Two and a half years ago a ragged calico walked up to me on the winery patio and rested at my feet. Weak and starving, we took her in, our little Tramp. She loved to sit in the winery window every morning waiting patiently for me to come feed her and ran to greet me at the door. She left us her kitten, Ditto, who now shares the same window seat, waiting patiently right next to the empty spot Tramp occupied.

Remember to stop by and visit us for all your gift-giving needs to your wine loving family and friends. We are open regular hours noon -5:30 pm during December. Gift cards are easy to purchase online, find the link on our website. January through February the tasting room will be closed, but contact us if you’d like to purchase wine to go. We’d be happy to accommodate you. Thank you to everyone who supported us this past year. We wish you a very happy holiday season and hope to see you soon!
