Harvest News Harvest was Sunday, Aug 22. Thanks to Luis and his crew working many hours to bring in all the Brianna grapes, estimated 1700 pounds. Also thanks to our additional suppliers: Tin Roof Vineyards (St. Croix grapes) and Mockingbird Vineyards (Leon Millot grapes), and Annelise Winery for additional equipment and wine. We also appreciate the help from those that aided with the delivery and/or processing: Chuck and Cyndi, Doug Abbot, Jeff Conger, and the Brunners. Harvest isn’t completely finished. Soon we will pick Norton (a red variety) grapes. After picking, grape skins are retained with the red grapes for a period of time during fermentation to extract a desired pigmented color, then they’ll go through the press and additional filtering. We have a lot of wine in aging tanks now. Bottling will start around the end of the month with 2020 vintages. Look for new wines to come! Events and Activities Wine Down to Milo will be held in the city park in Milo on Sunday, Sept. 19 from noon - 4pm. We will be there serving free samples and selling bottles. This is the 6th annual fundraising event and will offer farmer’s market, food vendors and live music. Tickets available online Eventbrite.com Marion County Writer’s Workshop Camp Write will be held in the evenings of Sept. 14-16. Workshop writers will gather each evening around the outdoor fire pit in the camp area and tell scary stories they wrote. This is an annual event that has been held since 2003. The adult public is welcome to come listen. Wine available by bottle or glass. Wine tastings at remote locations have been curtailed in grocery stores since the onset of COVID. But now we were invited to offer tastings—the first since 2019– on Friday, Sept 24, at the Hy-Vee store in Chariton, IA. Joann will be serving free samples in the wine and spirits area from 5:00 - 7:00pm. Rock Star dinners are back. We treat you like a celebrity with exceptional home cooked food, 3 courses includes wine pairings with each course. We close the winery to only your party on a weekend evening, up to 6 people. It’s a truly unique experience unlike anything in Marion County. Reservations required a few days in advance. Great idea for special occasions. New Wine Selections New wines available now including, for the first time, fruit wines of blueberry, cranberry, and pomegranate, thanks to Annelise Winery. New wines to come: Red Oak and Cherry Blossom. We are happy to announce our sweet white wine, Zuckerwein, has earned 2 different awards: a bronze from Iowa Wine Growers Association, and a silver award from the Iowa State Fair. Zuckerwein is a 2018 vintage made from LeCrescent grapes and can be sampled and purchased only at the winery in Knoxville.
